Vice president of London School of Economics and Political Science Paul Kelly visited UIBE

In the afternoon on 15 April, the vice president of London School of Economics and Political Science Paul Kelly who is in charge of the international affairs, came and visited our school. Vice president Zhao Zhongxiu received professor Paul Kelly in the meeting room. The headmaster of the School of International Relations professor Dai Changzheng and other teachers attended the meeting.

After showing a warm welcome to the guest, vice president Zhao Zhongxiu introduced our discipline features and the situation in international cooperation including academic circulations with UK universities and business communications with UK enterprises. At present, based on the Confucius Institute our school has started some cooperative programs with University of Leeds. With high attention to the development and construction of the discipline of international relations, our school fully supports the academic circulations with the world class universities such as London School of Economics and Political Science to promote the education level.

Vice president Paul Kelly extended his thanks to our school for inviting him to come. Up to now, London School of Economics and Political Science has established cooperative relations with several top universities in China, Professor Paul Kelly said that more Chinese students are welcomed to come. He also recognized our discipline features and the international characteristics of our school, and expressed the wishes to develop substantive relations for cooperation in possible fields. At last, Professor Paul Kelly invited our school to visit and exchange.

After the meeting, Paul Kelly delivered a speech to the students in the School of International Relations entitled, “The United Kingdom government and the European Union.”

London School of Economics and Political Science was established in 1895, with 26 alumni or alumnae are or were the head leaders in many different countries. Along with Oxford University, Cambridge University, Imperial College London, and University College London, London School of Economics and Political Science has long been known as one of the UK Group 5 universities, and it’s also a member of the “Golden Triangle” and the “Russell Group.” Listed as one of the most difficult universities to enter, London School of Economics and Political Science shares the same fame with Oxford and Cambridge in the UK.

Professor Paul Kelly is the vice president of LSE, majoring in political philosophy. His researches focus on two main aspects; one is British political theories, mainly the theories of John Locke, Jeremy Bentham and John Stuart Mill; and the other is liberal political theories, especially the works by Ronald Dworkin and Brian Barry, multiculturalism, group power, national identity, equality of outcome, equality of opportunity, and social justice theory.
