The chief economist of World Bank in South Asia Area visit our school

(School News) In the morning on March 28, 2013, Martin Rama, the chief economist of World Bank in South Asia Area, research director of the “World Development Report(2013), and the economist in World Bank Dr. Li Yue paid an academic visit to our school, delivering a lecture on the essential contents and basic views of the 2013 “World Development Report” to over fifty teachers and students.

Vice president Lin Guijun received Dr. Martin Rama and Dr. Li Yue before the meeting and introduced our researches that were carried out in the field of international economics and trade. They discussed the phenomenon of labor force flowing from coastal regions to middle and west regions in China. Both parties have expressed their willingness to strengthen the cooperation and conduct researches in the field of trade and development together in the future.

In the lecture held by Professor Hong Junjie, the headmaster of the School of International Trade and Economics, the two experts from World Bank made an comprehensive and in-depth analysis on “jobs and employment” which is also the theme of the 2013 “World Investment Report.” In the 2013 “World Development Report”, employment is viewed as the driving power of development, not a derivative result. The Report involves the employment issues in different fields and under different development patterns in various countries. Also, the two experts made a detailed explanation on the questions raised by the teachers and students in the meeting.
